The three-star defensive end from Mansfield (Texas) Legacy was also seriously considering Oklahoma among others schools, but Notre Dame’s persistence and prestige played a big role in Abiara’s decision.
However, his recent de-commitment does not come as a major surprise. Abiara’s communication with the Irish staff had cooled over time and then it looked like Notre Dame and the Texas prospect had started to rebuild the relationship.
Then there were reports that Abiara is facing legal issues after being charged with criminal trespassing over the fall. That situation – along with Abiara still looking at other schools – could have been the impetus for the parting of ways in recent days.
Oklahoma, Texas and SMU are some schools that have been mentioned in Abiara’s recruitment, but it will be interesting to see how things play out now with some off-the-field concerns. Notre Dame will move on – and maybe even look for one more defensive end in this class.
