Noah Cyrus got into a bit of hot water for using a racially insensitive term. The singer was quick to apologize, however, and promised that she will never use that word again!
Interestingly enough, Noah had the best of intentions when she posted the message that got her in trouble.
After all, it was meant to defend Harry Styles‘ choice to rock a dress on a magazine cover and praise him for looking so good in the pice of clothing.
Miley Cyrus’ younger sister wrote, alongside a pic of the former One Direction member that ‘he wears this dress better than any of u nappy a** heauxz.’
This came after conservative pundit, Candace Owens, slammed Harry by arguing that the supposed and increasing ‘de-masculinization’ of men in Western society will lead to its downfall.
But it did not take long before Noah got criticized for using the word ‘nappy,’ which is a rather racially insensitive word referring to the texture of Black hair.
After seeing the post, one Twitter user called her out, writing that white people ‘need to stop using words you hear black ppl say, y’all don’t even be knowing the meaning y’all be saying it just to look cool it’s aggy.’
In response to the criticism she received, Noah apologized on her IG Stories, writing: ‘i am mortified that i used a term without knowing the context and history, but i know now and i am horrified and truly sorry. i will never use it again. thank you for educating me. i in no way meant to offend anyone. i am so sorry.’
Candace Owens, however, clapped back at Noah as well, demanding to know: ‘Care to explain to me how @noahcyrus calling me a ‘nappy a** h*e’ is not racist? I’m all ears. You guys love cancel culture.’ In the same post, she also tagged Miley, asking her to ‘come get your sister!’
