Demi Lovato dropped a Donald Trump diss track called “Commander in Chief” and the song with scathing lyrics is getting mixed reviews. Wearing a face mask with the word “vote” on it, it was clear that the song’s motivation is to rebuke the president and encourage voters to take to the voting booth to overturn his presidency. There’s no question that Joe Biden‘s and Kamala Harris’ supporters love the song and Demi has fired up her liberal fanbase, but the lyrics have struck the wrong chord with her Republican fans — and yes, she has many.
At 28-years-old, Demi Lovato has been through a lot. It’s even safe to say she’s been to hell and back and is now feeling the healthiest (emotionally, spiritually, and physically) she ever has. She’s finally accepting herself for who she is and using her voice for the causes that matter most to her.
The “Commander in Chief” chorus states the following.
Commander in Chief, honestly If I did the things you do I couldn’t sleep, seriously Do you even know the truth? We’re in a state of crisis, people are dyin’ While you line your pockets deep Commander in Chief, how does it feel to still Be able to breathe?
Demi shared several video previews on her official Instagram account to announce the new song. She asked her fanbase to vote, but many are sounding off that not only are they voting for Donald Trump, her decision to share a strong, politically divisive song is causing them to rethink their support for her. It seems a risk Demi was willing to take and there’s no question she never would have released the song if she was afraid her Republican fan base would walk away.
Demi posted the following caption along with a clip from the video on her Instagram account. (Don’t worry, you can watch the full “Commander in Chief” video below).
Won’t give up, stand our ground… We’ll be in the streets while you’re #CommanderInChief. Video dropping tomorrow. ? I’m calling on all of you, please join me in voting for this years election. Find your voter information at iwillvote.com
Here is the full video. At this point, Demi just shared a photo of herself wearing the vote face mask. It’s unclear if she is going to release a full video for the song.
What do you think about Demi Lovato’s latest song “Commander in Chief?” Do you like the song? Do you think it was a risky move for the musical artist to write and perform a politically divisive song?
